The early years
My career started in Australia in 1990, when I took gap year with full intentions of
taking an Aeronautical Engineering degree, and then joining up as an officer in the
Army Air Corps flying helicopters - a gap year that still in 2009 hasn’t finished.
My working life began in sales in 1990, with an Australian company that brought me
to England, where at 21 I set up my first company importing and selling fancy goods.
What I´ve Done in My Career and How I Got Where I am Today
In the last 18 years I have directed companies; recruited, trained, and managed sales
personnel; and lead management teams. This taught me about sales, analysis, and
commercial awareness. Two years ago I was working in a web design company in Liverpool,
where I was head of marketing. Here, I was working alongside John, with whom I´d
worked on many projects in the past 10 years; and Paul, a fresh face to me.
The company we worked for was fun but we decided that we felt we could better influence
businesses´ online presence using our own methods. This is where Essio Marketing´s
began.
My Specialities
I specialise in Search Engine Optimisation, Pay Per Click, Analytics, online marketing
strategies, and research. I am currently working and improving on social media, but
this is such a big area that we have segmented it between Paul, John, and I. I also
enjoy writing, and hopefully you will enjoy the articles that I will be posting on our
blog.
Career Low Points
In fairness I don´t spend too much time dwelling on negatives. Everyone´s
had their ups and downs and I’m no different. I try to take them on the chin, learn
and move on. I’d like to think as myself as ultra positive and pretty thick
skinned.
To be truthful, bad sports results, the English weather, and my son Harley telling me I´ve got a fat belly get me down.
Career High Points
Wow, there are far too many to mention. Right now is a high point: the internet is
coming of age and we have now started to receive the credit for a lot of late nights,
long weekends and copious amounts of coffee. We have great customer service and the
company is established and continues to grow irrespective of the recession. We are
also working on five of our own new projects which we envisage will be a success in
the not too distant future.
When I´m Not Working I Like to...
Spend time with my family and friends. I love to play golf; scuba dive; read pre-
history; support Llanelli Scarlets rugby (being half Welsh); and frequently travel
to Malta (being half Maltese). I support Liverpool football club and research about
the internet every day. I am also fond of the odd glass of good red wine or a pint
of real ale.
My Ambitions for the Future
Having helped to establish Essio Marketing as a leading internet marketing company in
the Northwest, the challenge is now to keep growing, responding to new technologies on
the net, and most important of all, to continue and improving the high level of service
we provide to our clients, including maintaining our high client retention rate (which
currently stands at 95%). I am a very ambitious individual and I am fortunate enough to
be working with two individual which I not only like, but respect the work of and share
mutual dreams.
