Taking on the world – social websites are coming together in the virtual world to make major changes in the real world. We have seen it recently on youTube (Raise Your Voice), and apparently now it’s Facebooks turn.
Facebook have teamed up with the Persuasive Technology Lab at Stanford University to launch a project aimed at “promoting world peace by building technology that helps people better understand each other”. The Peace on Facebook page currently displays interesting statistics on geographical, religious and political connections between countries. Interesting as this concept is, the page lacks in any information on what’s happening, how to keep updated or how to get involved.
While I am all for world peace, the big question is “is it possible?” for which Facebook also attempts to answer this question with a chart indicating the percentages who believe it is possible. Unsurprisingly, the US is at the bottom with an average of 9.5% of the population in belief, while Colombia lead the way with 35.01% of their population being believers. Apparently, US citizens know their international relations pretty well.
