Google ‘In-Page Analytics’ – The New Kid On The Block

Personally I found the ‘Site overlay’ tool to be unreliable and often difficult to understand or read so I am very excited to see that Google have replaced this report in Google Analytics with ‘In-Page Analytics’. At first glance this looks an extremely useful tool and I can’t wait to run the rule over it over the coming months.

Google have recently launched ‘In-Page Analytics’ in Beta, a tool which is similar to its predecessor ‘Site Overlay’  but seems to offer much better Data Visualisation, an Improved Interface and also offers filters, other options and some new reporting tools.

The video below by Google best describes the tool, its features and how best to use it;

I will provide a more in depth opinion once I have had the opportunity to learn the full functionality of the tool; however my first impression is that this tool will be a great addition to Google Analytics and an excellent long overdue replacement for ‘Site Overlay’.

I see this tool’s best use as giving all GA users, even those with limited experience, the opportunity to better understand the activity of visitors and how they are interacting with their website. The tool will give users an understanding ‘at a glance’ of which products are getting the most views, and where on the page most visitors are clicking on links.
